It's in my blood

Mississippi that is. I was born and educated in Mississippi. Although I have not ever lived there otherwise, my family is still there and frequent enough visits keep me a Mississippi girl at heart. So I feel like I "get it". However, on a recent visit to see my favorite relatives, I encountered a wonderfully WT sight at the park.

I took the kids to a park in Columbus to give my grandmother a break from my hoodlums. There was only one other family there - what appeared to be a grandmother, her daughter and the daughter's two kids - a cute 2 year old tow headed little boy and a 6 month old girl.

While words cannot do the experience justice, this overheard should give you a sampling.

"WYATT! That is nawt yer drank. Put that drank day-own. Eef yew want a drank come over heere and git yer Mountain Dew! WYATT! Put that day-own and come git yer Mountain Dew! Raht nay-oh!"

And just to paint the whole picture the Mountain Dew was in a sippy cup...

and the family was from Florida.

Way to go family - way to taint Mississippi.

All the family on both my mom and dad's side is from Mississippi~! I have not lived there but spent many a summer in all kinds of Mississippi regions, northern, central and coastal--and I am pretty sure I've heard almost verbatim the same conversation you did!
Blessings!
